Antimicrobial Resistance

Each year, more than 2.8 million antimicrobial-resistant infections occur in the United States, and more than 35,000 people die as a result. These data, from the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN), reflect inpatient antimicrobial resistance, where "inpatient" refers to an individual receiving care within a hospital. The antimicrobial resistance types that are featured on this page are often a result of extensive antibiotic use in hospitals.
